An Imprint of Ten Speed Press
Crossing Press (originally called New Books) began as a small poetry publisher founded by poet John Gill in the village of Trumansburg, New York, just outside of Ithaca, in 1963. He changed the press’s name to the Crossing Press in 1969 (after consulting the I Ching, as legend has it) and began branching out into literature, feminist and political works, and cookbooks. Early landmarks include The Male Muse (1974), a pioneering collection of gay poetry, and unique cookbooks like Moog’s Musical Eatery (1978). In 1986, the company relocated to northern California and, in 2002, it was acquired by Ten Speed Press.
Crossing has become best known for its books on alternative lifestyles, spirituality, and healing modalities. With definitive titles like Diane Stein’s Essential Reiki, D. J. Conway’s Wicca: The Complete Craft, and Cyndi Dale’s Advanced Chakra Healing, Crossing remains at the vanguard of transformative theory and practice.
